This poster is salsify seed heads taken from a close-up view with the technique of macro photography. This technique turns normal grass-like seed heads into otherworldly grand umbrella-shaped plant. These withe seed heads look like those of dandelions and also spread easily thanks to wind but they are about twice as large. After spreading out, they grow up to become plants with yellow or purple flowers. Their appearance marks a summer period and especially periods of sun shining brightly. Salsify is used in cooking and it got another name “oyster plant” due to its faint flavor. The plant is native to Central and Southern Europe. Just a small and normal plant but salsify seed heads can make we see differently under the magic of photography. The close-up photo turns salsify seed heads into magical umbrellas from another world.
